Watch ReelShort Shows Free Endless Short Dramas

Five Apps Fight Through Six Rounds, With No Participation Trophies

It has been some time since short-drama apps counted as a niche curiosity. Per Sensor Tower, the category brought in about $700M in worldwide in-app revenue in Q1 2025, and 49% of it came from the US. By Q1 2026 the quarterly figure had grown to about $750M, while is reel short free full-year 2025 landed at roughly $2.8–3B. If you have ever searched a store for a short reels app, you have encountered at least one of the five names that dominate the conversation: ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax, My Drama and DramaWave. At first glance, they appear identical: vertical episodes, a cliffhanger every minute or two and a weekly pass waiting behind the paywall. Underneath, they differ on ownership, pricing, platforms and extras in ways that change what you pay and where you can watch. We ran them through six rounds, naming a winner in each, and drew on only store listings, company terms and published industry data as of September 2026.

The Full Comparison Grid

Before the rounds, here is the whole field on one screen. Prices are the figures displayed in the US App Store as of September 2026, and they differ by country, platform and promotion. The market shares are Media Partners Asia estimates for the microdrama market outside China. Install counts come from each app’s Google Play listing. We would rather leave a gap than guess, so wherever no reliable source released the figure, the cell says “not reported”. Use the grid as your scoreboard and read the rounds below as the commentary.

Round 1: Owners and Scale

The incumbent is ReelShort, and it still carries the most weight. Backed by China’s COL Group and based in Sunnyvale, Crazy Maple Studio launched it in August 2022, and MPA puts its share at about 29% of the market outside China. For 2026, MPA projects $1.05B, after 2025 revenue of $785M. Launched in April 2023 and holding about 21%, DramaBox is run by Singapore’s StoryMatrix as a subsidiary of Beijing Dianzhong Technology. ReelShort was ahead $130M to $120M in Q1 2025, per Sensor Tower, but by Q1 2026 the two were tied at roughly $140M each, with DramaBox ranked first. DramaWave, often mistyped as “dreamwave”, is the youngest app here, yet it already holds about 13% and its annualized revenue reportedly topped $700M by Q2 2026. Run from Hong Kong, ShortMax appears to be the same app as ShortTV from Jiuzhou Culture. With 5M+ Android installs, My Drama is the minnow, yet it is the only one that has Fox Entertainment as a shareholder. For context, GoodShort, which sits just outside this field, holds about 6%. The winner: ReelShort, narrowly, on market share.

Round 2: What It Costs

This is the round where the apps seem most alike. ReelShort, ShortMax, My Drama and DramaWave all sell an automatically renewing weekly pass at roughly $19.99 in the US App Store. ShortMax also offers a $9.99 “Weekly Pass Pro”, while DramaWave’s weekly VIP begins at $7.99. DramaBox takes a different route: auto-renewing memberships at $5.99, $17.99 and $19.99, plus special offers from $4.99. The standout is DramaWave’s monthly VIP at $36.99, the only verified monthly plan in these US listings. Four weeks of a $19.99 weekly pass come to about $80, so a monthly plan at less than half that is the wiser buy for steady viewers. Prices vary by country, platform and promotion, so the number on your screen may differ. Winner: DramaWave, as its monthly plan undercuts four weekly renewals comfortably.

Round 3: Free Ways to Watch

The marketing gets loud and the details grow thin around free viewing. ReelShort’s own blog says the first 5 to 15 episodes of a series are usually free, and one rewarded ad unlocks two premium episodes. A seven-day check-in streak brings 100+ coins, although free reward coins usually expire while paid coins do not. ReelShort also operates official channels on YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion, the easiest legitimate way to sample a reel short drama without paying. Never treat look-alike sites, modded APKs or “unlimited coins” generators as a safe shortcut; they are unofficial, so keep away. DramaBox has free options too, but its exact numbers for free episodes, ad caps and check-in coins appear only in third-party guides. Winner: ReelShort, clearly.

Round 4: Screens and Platforms

Real differences show up on screens, where these apps genuinely split apart. ReelShort supports iPhone, iPad, Apple silicon Macs, Vision Pro and Android, and it also streams in a browser at reelshort.com, with progress that syncs across devices. As for DramaBox, the website mostly points you back to the app, while DramaWave is verified only on its iOS and Android apps. ShortMax offers web browsing too, since its domain redirects to the ShortTV website. My Drama holds the trump card: an Apple TV app for tvOS 18 or later, which ReelShort’s App Store listing does not show. If a shorts app on your phone is all you need, any of the five will do. Round winner: ReelShort overall; My Drama claims the living room.

Round 5: Libraries and Original Series

By raw numbers, ShortMax is untouchable. The app claims 50,000+ dramas in 19 languages, and as of January 2024 the company behind ShortTV had produced more than 600 mini-dramas for overseas markets, most of them dubbed Chinese adaptations. DramaWave claims 30,000+ dramas in 18 languages, and according to reports, more than 80% of its newly released content is AI-generated. When it comes to recognizable hits, ReelShort takes the lead, with The Double Life of My Billionaire Husband and Fated to My Forbidden Alpha, both of which went viral in November 2023. DramaBox answers with an LA production team and originals such as Fake Dating My Rich Nemesis. My Drama has the most interesting pipeline, because Fox has committed to 200+ vertical titles over two years. The winner: ShortMax, on sheer volume.

Round 6: Bonus Features and Fine Print

DramaWave runs away with this one. Offline downloads, on-screen comments and 1080p video feature in its App Store listing, and no other app in this comparison is verified to offer offline viewing. ReelShort’s cross-device sync is the next most useful perk for viewers who move between phone and laptop. Because it varies more than the prices do, the fine print merits a look too. ShortMax’s terms say refunds are not given “unless the paid product/service is unusable”, and My Drama forfeits coins after 12 months of inactivity. Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription on any of these apps, so cancel in App Store or Google Play settings instead. Winner: DramaWave, with room to spare.

Best For: Our Final Picks

How you watch decides the best choice, since no single short drama app takes every round. Best for Apple TV is My Drama, the one app here with a verified tvOS version and the only one with Fox-produced originals. Best for web viewing is ReelShort, thanks to a full browser player and progress that follows you between devices. Best for sheer volume is ShortMax, whose claimed 50,000+ dramas dwarf everything else in the grid. DramaWave is best for commuters and steady bingers, as it pairs offline downloads with a $36.99 monthly plan. Ranked first by Sensor Tower in Q1 2026 and picked for Disney’s 2025 Accelerator class, DramaBox is best for backing the current revenue leader. ReelShort is once again best for free, legitimate sampling, with its ad unlocks, check-in coins and official social channels. Tempted by all five? Pick one, cancel the weekly pass you are not using and let the cliffhangers wait a day.
